Drilling of 490 rotary drillholes (total 43,000 m) in EL 539, the majority being located on a 200 m grid spacing, has revealed the western end of a major Tertiary palaeochannel system, and has intersected significant and widespread subsurface uranium mineralisation associated with redox fronts existing within the palaeochannel sediments. Prior analysis of the uranium and thorium contents of surficial granite exposures and of nearby lacustrine sediments had indicated the strong likelihood of post-Precambrian sedimentary uranium accumulation in the region.
