Regional exploration for Mount Gunson type stratabound copper mineralisation over an area extending from Whyalla to near Lake Torrens comprised geological mapping, rock chip geochemical sampling, and the drilling of 157 rotary stratigraphic holes totalling 7410 m. No significant geochemical anomalies were disclosed. Analysis of the subsurface geological information obtained by drilling has allowed the recognition of 2 new informal rock stratigraphic units associated with the Woocalla Dolomite Member. Attempts to locate a prospective corridor between the margin of the Woocalla Dolomite and outcropping Pandurra Formation, where the Whyalla Sandstone directly overlies the Pandurra Formation as a result of inferred tectonic disturbance, were unsuccessful. Instead, the Pandurra Formation appears to dip steadily eastwards, with minor Proterozoic palaeodrainage erosional irregularities on its upper surface identified in three locations.
