Reports on the investigation of potential northern Spencer Gulf coastal sites for the solar evaporative production of seawater salt, principally as a feedstock for the proposed petrochemical plant which was being considered by Dow Chemical Corp. for establishment at Redcliff Point. Work performed included geological mapping, auger drilling, Dutch Cone penetration tests, percolation tests, tube and laboratory permeability testing, groundwater table and tide measurements, laboratory testing for engineering properties, foundation testing at Point Paterson and Yatala Harbour, a survey of local construction materials (clay, rock and gravel), and the construction of trial evaporation ponds and levee banks.
