The southern portions of both subject licences, comprising ~58.5% of the former area of EL 1356 and ~38% of the former area of EL 1357, have now been relinquished. Preliminary work consisted of collecting 9 surface grab samples of exposures of Tertiary sandy sediments to undergo heavy mineral separation using a heavy organic liquid (TBE : density 2.95 g/cc). 50 g portions of these dried samples were processed and their 'sinks' fractions were examined mineralogically to determine the likely average yield of valuable heavy mineral species. Subsequently, an exploratory RAB traverse drilling programme to assess the Late Tertiary marine shoreline sedimentary sequence (Loxton and Parilla sands) for possible economic heavy mineral sand accumulations (comprising a total of 364 vertical open holes put in at 100 m to 400 m hole spacings along twelve roadside traverses) discovered small amounts of heavy minerals (ilmenite, rutile, zircon, leucoxene and monazite) within drill cuttings mineral assemblages that are dominated by goethite, which probably entered as cavings from the overlying Holocene Molineaux Sand. The drillhole cuttings samples were taken at 2-metre depth intervals and initially panned onsite to obtain a visual estimate of HM content; selected mineralised samples were then sent for laboratory processing and examination.
