Diamond drillcore obtained from the Luxemburg mine area, which was drilled by Sundowner Minerals Pty Ltd in 1969-70, was assayed and identified as consisting of altered pyroxenite, altered granitoids (adamellite, granodiorite, tonalite), and altered rudite (?tillite). Sulphides associated with quartz fracture-fill veins found in it are weakly auriferous. The previous gold mining exploited secondary enrichments derived from near- surface weathering. Possible diagenetic base metal deposits within Adelaidean sediments adjacent to the MacDonald Fault, and late stage hydrothermal emplacements above high level intrusives, still remain viable exploration targets.
