A total of 3219 stream sediment samples, for an overall sampling density of 17.5 samples per square mile, plus 39 follow-up detailed stream sediment samples and 11 rock chip samples, were taken across most of the accessible parts of Kangaroo Island in a search for economic base metals. Significant lead anomalism was detected surrounding the historic Western River mines, and along a strike length of at least 1.5 miles in the headwater zone of King George Creek, west of Dewrang Homestead. At these and at several other minor elevated base metal anomalies, follow-up soil sampling, geological mapping and auger drilling to sample fresh bedrock have been recommended.
