TARGET: The Willouran Ranges south-west of Marree were investigated for possible Olympic Dam type base metal occurrences which might have formed within the Precambrian Callanna, Burra and Umberatana Group sediments, and the area was also concurrently prospected for detrital and kimberlite-hosted diamonds. Secondary targets were to evaluate known hydrothermal gold veins, plus magnesite beds that might possibly be derived from weathered kimberlite. EXPLORATION: Geological mapping; rock chip, stream sediment and gravel sampling; review of previous exploration; assaying of selected samples of stored drill cores from two Utah Development Corp. holes previously drilled at Douglas Creek. RESULTS: 1. A sedimentary magnesite deposit of good grade exists near Coronation Bore, but is too small in size to interest CRA. 2. 3 microdiamonds were recovered. However, the Black Wattle Creek microdiamond / picroilmenite / chromite indicator anomaly may simply be due to reworking from tillites of the Umberatana Group. 3. The gold mineralisation which was identified at Douglas Creek by Utah is only small scale.
