Carpentaria's exploration for Olympic Dam - type base and precious metal mineralization included the acquisition of aerial magnetic (Geoex Pty Ltd, March 1979), helicopter-borne gravity (Layton Geophysical, September 1979) and ground magnetic surveys, and the drilling of 6 percussion holes totalling 742 m. The magnetic and gravity anomalies that were tested were interpreted as being due to variations in the magnetite content of, and/or to slight variations in the density of, different basement rocks. No anomalous trace metal assay values were recorded. Stockdale's exploration program included acquiring a helicopter-borne aerial magnetic and VLF-EM survey (Aerodata McPhar Pty Ltd, 1982), with follow-up ground magnetic and Sirotem surveys, plus loam heavy mineral sampling, and RAB/mud drilling of 2 holes totalling 198 m. One hole was abandoned before penetrating basement, within caving unconsolidated lignitic sands and silts. The other hole intersected an amphibolite. No diamonds or kimberlitic indicator minerals were recovered from the sampled regolith.
