TARGET: Unconformity related, vein-like and vein-type uranium in the Cleve Metamorphics, Katunga Dolomite and Mangalo Schist; lead-zinc sulphides of Broken Hill or Balmat-Edwards type in the Hutchison Group. EXPLORATION: Uranium exploration undertaken from 1978 to 1984 included geological mapping (at 1:10,000 and 1:2000 scales), relogging of SADM drill core, rock chip and soil geochemical sampling, acquisition of ground Sirotem, magnetic and radiometric surveys, percussion drilling (9 holes totalling 336 m), costeaning, and a lead isotope study. Lead-zinc exploration undertaken from 1984 to 1987 included the flying of an aerial magnetic/radiometric survey (2181 line km in February 1986) and data image processing, acquisition of ground magnetic surveys and Sirotem surveys, soil, rock chip and stream sediment geochemical sampling, geological mapping, and relogging and sampling of SADME drill core. RESULTS: Detailed geological mapping and radiometric surveying failed to detect significant uranium anomalism. A number of lead-zinc and manganese anomalies were identified, associated with faulted Lower Proterozoic calc-silicate and graphitic schist sequences and amphibolite facies banded iron formations. Bulk cyanide leach stream sediment sample assaying disclosed minor gold anomalies at Mangalo Creek and Mount Miller.
