Ongoing exploration for possible Mount Gunson - type base metal occurrences has included percussion drilling on a metal ratio geochemical anomaly identified proximal to inferred buried Beda Volcanics at Charlinga (10 holes totalling 1218 m), plus the compilation variously of structure contours for the pre- Tapley Hill Formation erosion surface, of isopach maps (Tapley Hill Formation, Willochra Subgroup equivalent, Yudnapinna Beds, Whyalla Sandstone), and of a pre- Tapley Hill Formation subcrop map. The drilling results overall were disappointing, although a best assay value of 380 ppm Cu was obtained from pyritic Pandurra Formation quartzite in hole BK22. A computer-based statistical study of all past drillhole sample geochemistry was used to compile maps that show stratabound copper and lead distribution (for the Cainozoic, Whyalla Sandstone, Yudnapinna Beds, Tapley Hill Formation, Pandurra Formation and these combined stratigraphic intervals). A photogeological study of structural elements in the Charlinga area has been commissioned from Hunting Geology and Geophysics, and had neared completion at the time of licence renewal. A series of 1:100,000 scale major data group summary maps will shortly be prepared to assist in locating possible future drilling targets.
