TARGET: Cross-cutting gold mineralised quartz reefs / veining, primarily in the Tarcowie Siltstone; gold in known mineralised zones in the Saddleworth Formation; and circular features as outlined from Landsat image interpretation. EXPLORATION: Rock chip (9) and BLEG (bulk leach extractable gold) stream sediment (16) orientation sampling in the Gum Well mine, Gum Dam and Scobie Hill areas. RESULTS: The rock chip sample assays failed to reproduce previously reported anomalous gold values. The orientation BLEG sample assays gave values of mainly around 0.1 ppb Au for the fine free detrital gold in the drainage, with assay maxima of 2.7 ppb Au, 27.3 ppb Ag and 827 ppb Cu returned. It appeared that the normal trace element indicators of gold mineralisation i.e. arsenic, do not correlate well in this instance. A reconnaissance BLEG stream sediment sampling programme covering ~300 sample sites was planned for 1988, but did not eventuate before it was decided to allow tenure to lapse.
