TARGET: Uranium in Proterozoic rocks in areas where these largely concealed by alluvial or weathered materials. EXPLORATION: RAB drilling during March-April 1987 (87 vertical open holes totalling 3583 m), investigation of radiometric anomalies disclosed by previous aerial surveys, and detailed geological mapping and regional mapping, plus acquisition of IP, ground magnetic and alpha card radon surveys in several areas. 50 sq. km over the Wartaka Grid were mapped at 1:20,000 scale. Diamond drill core from SADME Myall Creek RC2 stratigraphic well was described. Gravity maps of the Roopena 1:100,000 sheet area were prepared by reprocessing of regional gravity data. RESULTS: In the Wartaka Grid, minor torbernite mineralisation in a large siliceous vein within interpreted Corunna Conglomerate was located during detailed field mapping, and secondary uranium - copper mineralisation was intersected in 2 drillholes, RP10 and RM39, at contacts with dolerite dykes. Analyses of drill cuttings and ground water samples obtained from RAB drillholes gave generally low geochemical values, with some elevated uranium and copper values related to the Roopena Fault. Radon anomalies of ~6 x background were recorded in the Pandurra and Wartaka grids, associated with a fault zone and intra-Proterozoic unconformity respectively.
