TARGET: Extensions to known mineralisation, lying beneath shallow cover; lode gold deposits. EXPLORATION: Geophysical surveys included : - aeromagnetic and radiometric surveys in April 1982 and May 1984 (line spacing: 300 metres; altitude: 120 metres) - a regional gravity survey in March 1984 - reconnaissance Sirotem surveys over broad targets selected from a summary and re-assessment of auger drilling data (30 000 holes compiled onto base maps) - follow-up of anomalies by ground magnetic, Sirotem and gravity surveys - a Zonge spectral IP test survey over known weak mineralisation in the West Doora area - experimental big loop RVR (Roving Vector Receiver) surveys in the Parramatta - Poona and Agery areas, which defined the Poona, Parramatta and Wheal Hughes sulphide anomalies - a downhole TEM survey in DDH 228 - a reconnaissance Sirotem survey over the Moonta Porphyry subcrop. Gold exploration included : - gold analysis of diamond drill core and mine samples - percussion drilling of mine areas where gold has been recorded - geochemical sampling of old pits, shafts and mine dumps (700 samples) - analysis of 7 000 auger drilling samples from the Moonta - Kadina area, and analysis of selected auger samples taken on a broad grid from areas not related to the main mineralising system - follow-up of significant gold values by percussion drilling. Molybdenum exploration included : - a detailed re-evaluation of the Alford molybdenum prospect, including percussion and diamond drilling - follow-up of Mo geochemical anomalies by percussion drilling at West Agery, Alford South and North Wallaroo. RESULTS: Evaluation of high grade Cu-Au mineralisation in Moonta Porphyry host rock at the Poona mine included 19 drill holes which defined a reserve of 260 000 tonnes at an average grade of 6.5% Cu and 2 g/t Au. Diamond and percussion drilling at Wheal Hughes located a zone of kaolin alteration in Moonta Porphyry containing mineralisation averaging 2-3% Cu and possibly 0.5-1 g/t Au. Diamond drilling at the Cunliffe aerial magnetic and Sirotem anomaly intersected a magnetite-bearing adamellite.
