TARGET: Diamonds in possible kimberlite intrusives; and (as JV objectives), possible exhalative lead-zinc-silver deposits of Broken Hill or Aggeneys - Gamsberg type, emplaced within the Early Proterozoic Hutchison Group, plus possible epithermal vein-type gold. EXPLORATION: Stockdale followed up aerial magnetic anomalies identified from its 1981 survey by means of helicopter and ground magnetic surveys, gravity and Sirotem surveys, loam heavy mineral sampling and detailed geological mapping. Two of the magnetic anomalies were drill tested (2 percussion holes totalling 108 m). Shell's base metal exploration included interpretation and image processing of magnetic data from Stockdale's 1981 aerial survey, plus geological mapping, the conduct of ground magnetic and Sirotem surveys, downhole TEM logging, a lead isotopic study on drill core at DDH PP1 (Paney prospect), soil and rock chip geochemical sampling, RAB and percussion drilling for bedrock samples (383 holes totalling 10,462 m), and drilling of 2 diamond holes (total 547 m) over Sirotem anomalies at the Paney prospect. WMC conducted regional, stream sediment bulk leach gold sampling and Sirotem surveys over 3 prospects. RESULTS: Drill core recovered from DDH PP1 was pyritic throughout, with minor Pb-Zn intersections in 4 zones of 2-8 m apparent width.
