TARGET: Gold . as Telfer-style stratabound mineralisation at the contact between Tapley Hill Formation and Tarcowie Siltstone; . as mineralisation of large scale, placer type in the Appila Tillite and Wilyerpa Formation; and . as hydrothermally sourced vein deposits in the Burra Group at the Wadnaminga Anticline. EXPLORATION: Part of a high resolution aeromagnetic survey flown in 1984, surface geochemical sampling, geological mapping (at 1:25 000, 1:10 000 and 1:2500 scales), RAB and auger bedrock sampling (3435 vertical open holes totalling 8497 m), bulk cyanide leach (BCL) stream sediment sampling, and diamond drilling (5 inclined or vertical HQ/NQ cored holes totalling 911 m). An orientation radiometric survey, carried out to determine whether spectrometry could be useful in locating areas of alteration, was inconclusive. Contractor Thomdrill tested tailings at the New Milo, Virginia and Great Eastern mines. RESULTS: Minor low grade gold intersections were made in several drillholes. Heap leaching of the mine tailings is not viable.
