GLENLOTH GOLDFIELD TARGET: Gold associated with quartz veins in shears in the Glenloth Granite, which have an uncertain relationship to dolerite dykes. Possible mineralised shears or dykes within the Glenloth Granite, as indicated by NW trending magnetic lineaments. EXPLORATION: SADME / BMR regional aeromagnetic data were reprocessed, imaged and interpreted. Stored drill cuttings from a total of 430 RAB holes previously drilled during 1980-1982 by Santos were re-logged, and 136 selected drill cuttings intervals were sampled and analysed for gold. 104 selected Santos RAB bottomhole samples were examined petrographically. RESULTS: The highest gold value obtained was 0.07 ppm Au. No correlation was seen between gold anomalism and the NW trending aeromagnetic lows. Petrology examinations of the RAB drill cuttings samples do not support the hypothesis of a zone of intrusion and alteration acting as the gold source. Geochemical analysis of 23 surface grab samples of dolerite outcrops collected during 1:10,000 scale field geological mapping undertaken in September 1987 indicated an association of gold with these dolerites, and in one sample, with dacite of the Gawler Range Volcanics. Further work to delineate the dolerites is proposed. KOKATHA AREA TARGET: Potential epithermal gold related to faulting around the margin of the Chandabooka Caldera within the Gawler Range Volcanics. EXPLORATION: Reinterpretation of data from the 1978 SADME Kokatha detailed aeromagnetic survey, and the drilling during December 1987 of 43 vertical RAB holes totalling 1576 m. All holes were analysed for Au, As, Sb, Mo, and W. RESULTS: In general, gold assay values were between 0.01 - 0.03 ppm Au. Higher values were not restricted to any one lithology; 4 of 5 samples from basic dykes and all 7 samples from acid volcanics of the Gawler Range Volcanics were above detection limit.
