TARGET: Economic fine-grained, Telfer style gold mineralisation occurring as syngenetic stratabound deposits formed in sedimentary basins during or soon after periods of basin subsidence and instability. The eastern limb of the large, overturned Ulooloo Anticline was examined. EXPLORATION: Regional bulk cyanide leach (BCL) stream sediment, soil and rock chip geochemical sampling, aerial photography (1:40,000 scale) and regional (1:10,000 scale) and detailed (1:500 scale) geological mapping; follow-up geochemical sampling of gold anomalies at Mount Scrub and Basin Dam. RESULTS: The follow-up sampling was inconclusive. A NNE-trending BLEG gold anomaly with values of up to 12.9 ppb Au was indicated, extending for 3 km between the Ulooloo and Mingibbie copper prospects. The Twigham workings lie within stratabound quartz-limonite reefs hosted by laminated shale, while the Ulooloo alluvial goldfield sediments appear to be derived from narrow quartz-veined limonitic shales and/or gossanous horizons.
