TARGET: In an untested area immediately west of Leigh Creek, extending as far as the eastern side of Lake Torrens, ETSA was aiming to find buried deposits of Late Palaeozoic or Mesozoic coal of a rank at least equal to that of Leigh Creek coal (and with a moisture content less than 35%). EXPLORATION: Acquisition and interpretation of ground gravity, Sirotem and seismic refraction surveys conducted at 44 selected sites, subsequent stratigraphic drilling (39 holes, partly cored, total 2392 m), and palynological studies of Jurassic, Cretaceous and Tertiary / Quaternary drillhole samples. RESULTS: Some variably carbonaceous Mesozoic sediments, but no coal, were intersected.
