TARGET: Diamonds in the William Creek area, and areas south-east of the Peake and Denison Ranges. EXPLORATION: Regional stream sediment and loam sampling supported by geological mapping and ground magnetic surveys located 2 areas rich in kimberlitic indicator minerals, which were followed up by bulk sampling and 1 open rotary drillhole (to 104 m). Reprocessing, recontouring and reinterpretation of the Ruby Hills Aerial Magnetic Survey flown by Geoterrex for CRA in 1981 (EL 761, Env 4138), led to follow-up of 7 anomalies with Sirotem and ground magnetic traverses. RESULTS: The source of the indicators was demonstrated to be a secondary source horizon within Mesozoic sediments. No diamonds were disclosed, and none of the geophysical anomalies investigated was thought to be caused by kimberlitic intrusion.
