A consultant geologist's reports prepared in 1970 for by mining lease optionholder Murumba Minerals NL describe his detailed mapping of the then known jade (nephrite) deposits within the Cowell Jade Province. Two potentially mineable deposits were selected for appraisal diamond drilling. The 5 drillholes totalling 103 m put down into outcrop on Swain's Lease encountered no nephrite, while the single 24 m deep hole put down on Schiller's Lease made a 3 m thick intersection of black nephrite. Intermittent contract mining of this nephrite pod, to supply gem rough material to an onsite slabbing and polishing jade processing factory, was proposed. A regional search to identify other potentially mineable nephrite occurrences delineated Outcrop 33 near Minbrie Creek and Outcrops 55 and 56 near Minbinnie Creek. Results of additional outcrop geological mapping and further appraisal diamond drilling, subsequently performed in late 1973 on the Cowell jade deposits by mining lease optionholder Centamin NL, are provided, but without concluding comments.
