At Tarcoola during 1987-88 a mine exploration and development programme was undertaken by the joint venture companies to assess the economic potential of existing mining leases surrounding the decommissioned Tarcoola Blocks mine. This programme consisted of erecting new shaft surface infrastructure, plus performing mine opening dewatering, refurbishing, geological mapping, diamond drilling and trial mining. The appraised mine has now been placed on care and maintenance pending arriving at a decision about purchasing the leases.
