TARGET: Downdip extensions of known Cambrian stratabound mineralisation occurring at the Eric lead-zinc prospect, principally along a mineralised, disconformable interpreted syn-depositional palaeosurface developed within the Wilkawillina Limestone. This feature is shallowly eastwards-dipping, is up to 25 m thick with a strike length of more than 700 m, and carries +1% Pb with likely silver credits. EXPLORATION: A critical review of previous exploration data, grab and rock chip sampling (43 samples) of all reported outcropping mineralisation, geological mapping of the setting and strike extent of prospective dolomite-weathered limestone horizons, and an appraisal of Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) mineralisation potential within the Flinders Ranges. RESULTS: A number of untested target zones were indicated by the review. It is suggested that drill targeting of the Eric prospect's postulated downdip extension, and of possible other similar blind MVT ore occurrences in the region, may best be accomplished through geophysical detection of zones of abnormal near-surface porosity, as well as by geochemical soil sampling and detailed structural mapping of carbonate lithotypes, looking for evidence of now-covered diagenetic collapse features.
