TARGET: Palygorskite (absorbent clay) in playa lakes within the Garford Palaeochannel. EXPLORATION: Trenching and 10-20 kg bulk sampling of known dolomitic palygorskite occurrences (15 backhoe cuts in seven lake depressions, to 3.6 m below surface, including also the extraction of a 20-tonne bulk sample from Lake Stevenson), absorbency tests and clay mineralogy determinations, plus calcination processing, marketing and production feasibility studies. RESULTS: A significant palygorskite resource was outlined at Lake Stevenson.
