Possible alluvial placer deposits of diamonds formed within the conglomeratic Early Jurassic Algebuckina Sandstone were sought in the Mount Anna district, as part of a wider search conducted across three adjoining ELs. Work on EL 1640 consisted of a background literature review, sedimentological studies of the potential host unit, and the taking from creeklines south of Mount Anna of 4 x 30 kg bulk loam samples for heavy mineral analysis. Chromites were found in all 4 samples, in common with the tenor of previous explorers' indicator mineral data. However, the nature of the heavy mineral assemblage found here and its grade has served to downgrade the exploration objective.
