TARGET: Possible diamondiferous kimberlites or secondary diamond deposits in the Warrakimbo area. EXPLORATION: Regional and follow-up geochemical sampling of gravels and soil, plus geological mapping and ground magnetic surveys, were carried out in the vicinity of the Warrakimbo Woolshed, where a micro-diamond had previously been recovered by CRA Exploration. RESULTS: Another micro-diamond was obtained from a site approximately 2.5 km north-east of the earlier find, but careful follow-up sampling of heavy mineral trapsites upstream failed to yield further diamonds or indicator minerals. Elsewhere, more than 34 chrome-pyrope garnets were recovered from a small creek that drains diapiric carbonate breccia bedrock exposed at Warrakimbo Woolshed. However, no outcropping kimberlite could be found, so the pyrope is thought to derive from one or more probable ultrabasic xenoliths contained within the diapir. A ground magnetic survey centred on the creek failed to give sufficiently high readings to delineate a buried magnetic primary source, and while soil geochemical results revealed elevated trace element values, they are not seen to be of an intensity to suggest a nearby kimberlite intrusion.
