TARGET: Palaeo-alluvial diamonds in the Triassic Boolcunda Basin. EXPLORATION: Initial soil sampling and ground magnetic surveys of geochemical and geophysical anomalies; comprehensive regional and follow-up heavy mineral stream sediment sampling of fossil river gravels; intensive processing of 50 tonne bulk samples. RESULTS: Many kimberlitic indicators, principally pyrope and chromite, but only two small diamonds (total weight 0.02 carat), were recovered. A pebble orientation and geological mapping study of the diamondiferous Boolcunda conglomerates was carried out to determine their likely source.
