Continuing exploration for economic stratiform base metal deposits in an area approximately 30 km north-east of Copley has outlined the presence of persistent traces of disseminated chalcopyrite, galena and pyrite within green shales and dolomitic siltstones of the Late Proterozoic Bunyeroo Formation, near its contact with the underlying Wonoka Formation. The low grade mineralisation and associated limonitic boxworks occur over a strike length of 36 km around the nose of a northeast-trending anticline, but four costeans cut across strike show that their overall thickness is only of the order of 50 cm, within a host band of sedimentary rocks 130-160 m wide. Assays from 939 soil samples were low (peak values for non-coincident samples: Cu 450 ppm; Pb 180 ppm; Zn 90 ppm) and no associated magnetic anomalies were detected by 4.8 line km of ground magnetic traverses. On the basis of these results, it was concluded that an enriched supergene orebody is probably not present at shallow depth downdip from the surface exposures.
