Numerous Pb-Zn-Cu-Ag mines and prospects, including the promising Menninnie Dam prospect located 80 km north of Kimba, occur within graphitic, calcareous and psammo-pelitic metasediments of the Palaeoproterozoic (ca 1900-1850 Ma) Hutchison Group on eastern, central and northern Eyre Peninsula. During 1987 SADME reviewed all of the known Pb-Zn occurrences on Eyre Peninsula. In the following year, SADME, the BMR and several mining companies carried out a detailed aerial geophysical survey over much of Eyre Peninsula. Limited reconnaissance drilling was carried out by SADME in 1990 based on geological mapping and interpretation of aeromagnetic, ground magnetic and electrical surveys. This work revealed prospective Hutchison Group rocks in areas where they were either concealed or not previously known: traces of mineralisation encountered by these drillholes have significantly enhanced the base metal potential of these and adjacent regions. Appraisal drilling carried out at the Miltalie mine has also upgraded the potential of that locality. This data package presents the results of the SADME drilling programme plus the results of related geophysical studies, and includes a comprehensive set of regional geological and geophysical maps, recently written reports and selected images. It provides a foundation for future base metal exploration on Eyre Peninsula, one of the most prospective base metal provinces in Australia.
