Possible stratabound, Kupferschiefer - style copper sulphide within the basal sediments of the early Neoproterozoic Tapley Hill Formation was the target of exploration in the Pernatty Ridge area. Aberfoyle's work has comprised a review of existing data, and the drilling of 3 RC holes totalling 405 m at sites to the south-west of the Ponds Well prospect. Minor but sparse chalcopyrite and bornite mineralisation, similar to that reported previously, was found to occur 200 m below the surface, and additional drilling was recommended to try to identify structural controls on its emplacement (e.g. significant block-faulting). Evaluation of the underlying pre-Adelaidean basement for base metals included performing lead isotope analyses on stored previous drillhole samples of brecciated and veined ?Wandearah Metasiltstone calc-silicates and cherts, which carry up to 1% Cu in isolated thin stringers in hole SAR8. The resulting isotopic ratios plot well outside of the empirical target ellipses for Lower - Middle Proterozoic stratiform massive sulphides, which implies that the Pernatty Ridge area lead isotopes are radiogenic, and therefore that the observed lesser lead mineralisation is epigenetic. It was concluded that any likely such orebody targets would lie > 0.5-1.5 km deep at this locality.
