A 210 tonne bulk sample of soft brown coal was obtained from the southern margin of the deposit using large diameter coring techniques. The recovered sample stratigraphy is consistent with a 6.4 metre coal seam overlain by clay and carbonaceous silty sands. This coring activity has partially depressurised the artesian upper aquifer system, and has also provided a hydraulic connection between all aquifer systems above the coal.
