TARGET: Microscopically fine-grained, Carlin - type gold within Early Cambrian carbonate rocks in the Reaphook Hill area, which could be mined by open pit methods. EXPLORATION: Geological reconnaissance, a review of previous drilling, stream sediment BLEG geochemistry, RAB / aircore drilling (22 holes totalling 1492 m), and interpretation of reprocessed 1966 BMR aeromagnetic data. RESULTS: No significant gold values were recorded in surface sampling, and all of the new drillholes, that were targeting possible gold geochemical haloes adjacent to interpreted fault lineaments, failed to reach the pre-Mesozoic basement in what proved to be deeply alluvium-covered areas. A separate re-appraisal of the known Reaphook Hill Cambrian limestone-hosted zinc occurrence identified a substantial extent of low grade secondary ore, associated with manganese oxides and predominantly concentrated in the Cambrian Parachilna Formation just above the Precambrian-Cambrian boundary, but the inferred general tenor of mineralisation in the orebody did not justify undertaking any further work there.
