Paralana Creek. Progress reports to licence surrender for the period 15/4/1968 to 14/4/1970.

Following a semi-detailed airborne geophysical survey of the Mount Painter region, 14 anomalies located over Precambrian metamorphics and Tertiary sediments were checked in the field, without success. However, a subsequent ground radioactivity survey delineated a significant radiometric anomaly within Tertiary sediments underlying Paralana Creek. 4 rotary holes totalling 555 feet were drilled and gamma ray logged, but all failed to disclose any uranium mineralisation, 2 being targeted at these radioactive Tertiary sediments, while the other 2 holes were put down on nearby separate airborne anomalies. A further 2 rotary holes totalling 400 feet were then drilled to test prospective basement breccia occurrences showing exposed secondary uranium and copper minerals in the matrix. Only hole 185-9 encountered anomalous radioactivity over the depth interval 85-160 feet, but when drill cuttings sampling returned low assay values it was not deemed significant. The primary source of this mineralisation is unknown.
