Exploration for possible diamonds in the Arno Bay area consisted of reconnaissance stream sediment and soil heavy mineral sampling, with follow-up <1 km grid-based loam sampling. The kimberlite indicator mineral determinations revealed a concentration of chrome spinel - rich samples along the western side of the licence area, while a separate, lesser occurrence of picroilmenite grains was found near the Lincoln Highway, 15 km north-east of Arno Bay township. However, it was subsequently concluded that these indicator mineral anomalies represented background rather than being suggestive of a nearby kimberlite source.
