Exploration for possible Olympic Dam type base metal sulphide deposits within the pre-Adelaidean basement underlying an area 100 km north-east of Kingoonya initially included making over 100 rock unit density and magnetic susceptibility measurements on stored drill cores from three prior deep boreholes, plus the acquisition and processing of a detailed 620 line km airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, and then ground magnetic and gravity follow-up of 10 aeromagnetic anomalies. It was concluded that most of the local geophysical anomalies are related to northwest-trending dykes. Vertical percussion drillhole CLK1, put down approximately 10 km south-west of Millers Creek Homestead to test both a weak magnetic anomaly and the associated strata, was abandoned at 152 m depth in ?Permian clay. There is no supporting gravity anomaly. Groundwater sampled from the Cretaceous Cadna-owie Formation interval in this hole contained 8400 mg/l of total dissolved salts. Based on new stratigraphic information obtained from exploratory drillholes recently completed in Carpentaria's adjoining ELs 291 and 300, a very thick and deeply covered Adelaidean Stuart Shelf sequence was interpreted as probably existing throughout the subject intervening Mount Paisley area, meaning that the sought-for target level here is too deep.
