TARGET: Broken Hill or Aggeneys - Gamsberg type stratiform base metal deposits within the metamorphosed Palaeoproterozoic Hutchison Group chemical sediments in the Corunna area, possibly hosted by geochemically anomalous carbonate and silicate facies banded iron formation lithologies, which in the subsurface may be related to strong aeromagnetic trends extending away from the known Triumph prospect. Shell had previously obtained near-target lead isotope signatures on anomalous BIF samples. EXPLORATION: Rock-chip sampling, Pb isotopic determinations on surface samples containing visible galena (max 2.88% Pb) and chalcopyrite (max 0.67% Cu), and RAB drilling along 3 lines to identify/sample shallow bedrock (52 holes totalling 1610 m). RESULTS: The drilling downgraded anomalous zones. Mineralisation appears to be related to emplacement of the Burkitt Granite and is characterised by highly radiogenic 207/204 and 208/204 Pb isotope ratios. Intact prospective Hutchison Group sequences are now thought unlikely to exist in the area, due to widespread faulting and granitisation. Locally abundant magnetite near the sheared margins of the granite explains the linear aeromagnetic signatures seen.
