An area of partly outcropping Proterozoic metavolcanic basement rock located approximately 50 km north of Tarcoola was explored for possible epithermal/hydrothermal uranium, base metal and precious metal deposits. Work consisted of the acquisition and processing of an airborne magnetic/radiometric survey (3160 line km of N-S flight lines at 300 m spacing and 80 m sensor height, with E-W tie lines 1.5 km apart) and a helicopter-borne gravity survey (150 stations read at 500 m spacing on N-S flight lines spaced 2 km apart); grid-based detailed geological mapping, plus limited rock and sediment sampling; petrographic studies of 15 outcrop rock chip samples; the conduct of gradient array and dipole-dipole IP surveys along 5.6 line km of E-W orientated lines spaced 100 m apart; and the drilling of one inclined percussion hole to 56 m total depth, to test a gravity anomaly. No significant radiometric or IP anomalies were seen at the East Birthday Hill grid, and only minor silver-lead-zinc mineralisation was detected there by assaying of drill samples taken from within subaphanitic, siliceous and chloritised Carnding Rhyodacite.
