BHP Minerals took out a licence (in two parts) over the Bimbowrie Creek area, 25 km north-west of Olary, to search both for possible zinc-lead-silver and copper-gold deposits within inferred prospective units of the Palaeoproterozoic Willyama Complex. The initial aim was to closely investigate local magnetic anomalies which had hitherto been ignored by previous explorers. This approach did not give good results, so the emphasis then shifted to testing bedrock electromagnetic conductors that were correlated with a prospective calcsilicate horizon in the base metal - prone Bimba Formation. The work comprised rock chip sampling and evaluation of magnetic targets, a reconnaissance BLEG stream geochemical survey (15 bulk samples), the acquisition and interpretation of an airborne EM (75 Hz QUESTEM) survey covering the entire licence (total 510 line km, 300 m flight line spacing with tie lines 2 km apart), with anomaly follow-up by ground Sirotem traverses, resultant prospect gridding and detailed geological mapping plus soil sampling, and limited reverse circulation drilling (2 holes totalling 227 m). This drilling intersected wide (16-80 m) sulphide-mineralised zones within the Bimba Formation, of pyrrhotite anomalous in zinc: the best intercept, in hole WR9204, yielded a 2 m thick interval grading at 0.19% Zn.
