Possible Mesoproterozoic stratabound unconformity - related copper mineralisation of Mount Gunson / Cattlegrid type, and, after 1980, pre-Pandurra Formation stratigraphic level, basement - hosted, Olympic Dam style iron oxide associated copper-uranium-gold mineralisation, have both been the targets of exploration within the now relinquished area located near Salt Creek, 60 km east of Woomera. Results of the EL 1617 and prior EL 861 exploration programme, which addressed geophysical anomalies derived from an airborne magnetic and radiometric survey with follow-up gravity, ground magnetic and CSAMT surveys that led to percussion / diamond drilling (13 holes totalling 5090 m), have been reviewed by the author of this partial relinquishment report, and certain significant aspects of the data are re-visited. In particular, licensee company geological and petrological interpretations are presented herein for some unusual basement rock textures found in the deepest, vertical diamond cored drillhole, PSC13/SASC4 (TD 1250 m), which was sited on a gravity high and penetrated 730 m into a slightly mineralised granite breccia showing some haematitic alteration.
