Exploration for Hunters Dam style stratiform lead-zinc mineralisation in the Benagerie area, in geochemically anomalous Palaeoproterozoic basement units equivalent to the Bimba Formation of the Willyama Supergroup, which overlies the magnetite - rich Upper Albite Formation, comprised the acquisition of 43 line km of ground magnetics over the flanks of regional magnetic highs, plus trial RAB drilling (2 holes, total 48 m). The open hole air drilling technique used failed to penetrate the Tertiary/Cretaceous clayey cover. A planned replacement aircore drilling programme (60 holes for an estimated total penetration of 4260 m) was not performed before a decision was made by Mount Isa Mines to cease tenure owing to six months of unsuccessful farm-out attempts, thus leaving the targeted residual magnetic anomalies untested.
