Renewed uranium exploration and prospect evaluation activities carried out in the Crocker Well - Mount Victoria region of the Olary Province has aimed to substantiate previous SA Department of Mines' derived uranium deposit data, and to evaluate the potential for finding both new primary ore occurrences and also lode extensions near known orebodies. Work completed to date has included making airborne and ground gamma ray scintillometry readings, the conduct of ground magnetic surveys, the appraisal of radiometric anomalies in shallow covered basement areas via drilling of 164 auger holes totalling 3714 feet, with some radon detection performed on soil gas samples taken from these holes, petrological studies of bedrock samples and especially the ore host rocks, geological mapping of the southern contact of the adamellite, and intra-basement test drilling of 20 rotary percussion holes totalling 2379 feet. 10 of these holes were put down in previously untested areas, with negative results, and 10 holes were sited near earlier SADM drillholes on known deposits, to relog the better recorded mineralised intersections for ore grade valuation comparison purposes. As suspected, the interpreted radiometric well log results calibrated against sample XRF assays suggest that actual U grades in the orebodies are lower than formerly indicated. It is inferred from the work completed so far that any possible additional undiscovered disseminated absite/brannerite orebodies present in the Crocker Well adamellitic zone are unlikely to be larger than those already identified. Also, major undiscovered extensions or repetitions of the nearby Mount Victoria vein-style davidite ore deposits are considered unlikely. Nevertheless, further detailed exploration of the region is still warranted.
