Exploration for diamonds and for base and precious metals over an extensive area located 50 km north-west of Olary comprised regional helicopter-supported drainage sampling of gravel and stream sediments. Kimberlite indicators (chromite) were detected near Mount Victor and Cockscomb Hill, but detailed follow-up sampling failed to enhance the anomalies or to indicate a source. Moderate uranium contents (found associated with elevated La, Ce, Th and P) in stream sediments at Calico Hill and Outalpa Hill, where there are no such mineral occurrences recorded in the catchments, were only partly repeatable, and are taken to reflect high detrital monazite concentrations derived from local granitic and pegmatitic rocks.
