Exploration undertaken by BHP Minerals for possible gold and base metal occurrences within Palaeoproterozoic basement of the Cobber Pedy Ridge in the Lake Phillipson area, south-east of Coober Pedy, has included the acquisition of 1 line km of ground magnetics over a prospective aeromagnetic anomaly, and the drilling of one inclined RC hole to a total depth of 146 m. The drillhole encountered magnetite-bearing gneiss, micaceous and garnetiferous quartzite and lastly, granite, all carrying insignificant trace metal geochemical values.
