Exploration for uranium and associated copper, gold and rare earth elements undertaken in the Mount Painter area comprised the acquisition of a helicopter-borne magnetic and radiometric survey during July 1990, plus the conduct of a stream sediment geochemical survey, detailed geological mapping (at 1:5,000 and 1:10,000 scales), and percussion and diamond drilling (69 holes, total 14,400 m). Drilling performed to the east of Mount Gee indicated the existence there of a substantial body of haematitic breccia containing low grade primary uranium mineralisation (e.g. 106 m @ 369 ppm U3O8 from the depth interval 141-247 m in hole DD91GE033).
