During September 1969 the licensee drilled and geophysically logged 11 open rotary holes totalling 1611 feet along two north-south traverses in a search for possible economic Mesozoic or Tertiary palaeochannel-hosted sedimentary uranium, within an interpreted drainage basin lying west of and near an area of known uraniferous basement rocks located 50 miles north of Yunta. Lithological logging of the drill cuttings indicated that only a thin covering of Recent alluvium overlies shallow, deeply weathered Adelaidean basement. A water-bearing sand horizon that is thought to be a palaeochannel was located in hole TY13, but no anomalous downhole radiometric responses were obtained.
