Possible economic stratiform base metal mineralisation formed within the Woocalla Dolomite Formation, which is shallowly buried over a wide area south-east of Lake Dutton, was targeted by ongoing work in an area located west and south-west of Pernatty Lagoon. Reconnaissance drilling of 30 vertical percussion holes totalling 3187 feet of penetration indicated the presence within this unit of an extensive sub-economic resource of low grade, fine grained galena-sphalerite-pyrite-chalcopyrite ore, having a maximum assay value of 6400 ppm Pb in hole WP16. At the western end of the area tested, drilling indicated a zone one mile long by half a mile wide which contains an average thickness of 20-30 feet of dark clay, averaging 0.2% Pb and 0.3% Zn, that lies between 40 and 135 feet below the surface. Other, more extensive but still sparsely mineralised zones were also encountered in the centre and at the eastern end of the drilled section, but require further testing. A minor content of silver, averaging around 7 ppm Ag, was detected in the better grade lead-zinc intervals. Considerable research effort was then put into identifying probable controls on this type of mineralisation, in order to narrow the parameters for directing any further exploration work in the Mount Gunson - Pernatty Lagoon region. Many of the proven controlling elements of both Kupferschiefer and Mississippi Valley - type stratiform ore accumulations were noted as being present, but it could not at this stage be established with certainty whether these are the only, or indeed are the most significant, controls to consider. The company has elected to undertake a limited, 'pattern' stratigraphic drilling programme as the next step, rather than embarking on expensive seismic or electrical geophysical surveys to map the Pandurra Formation erosional surface and any sulphide bodies related to troughs in it.
