Exploration of an area situated 15 miles east and north-east of Hawker addressed a perceived potential for undiscovered medium to low-grade stratabound base metal deposits in folded and slightly faulted Adelaidean Umberatana Group slatey wall rocks associated with the Worumba Diapir, which have previously been much worked on a small scale at many now abandoned sites. Activity has been concentrated on the historic Wyacca Mines locality, where the apparently most intensive mineralisation occurs (limonitic quartz vein-style pyrite + chalcopyrite + bornite), and has consisted of reconnaissance 1:4800 scale geological mapping, rock chip and soil sampling, plus grid-based IP surveys, leading to later rotary percussion drilling (11 vertical holes totalling 3250 feet). In addition, a stream sediment geochemical survey of the Mount Craig district was conducted, resulting in the discovery of two minor new outcrops of copper mineralisation. At Wyacca, a Pb/Zn soil anomaly, and several promising IP anomalies, were shown by drilling to be uneconomic, with only traces of copper sulphides evident in filled fractures carrying from 1-5% pyrite.
