AIM: To investigate a suspected structural anomaly. Secondary objectives were to evaluate the weight drop input method as an exploration tool and to compare seismic and gravity profiles to assess the reliability of the gravity method in defining subsurface structure. Further objectives were to determine the areal extent of the anomaly and to establish the relationship between the outcropping Ordovician strata and any reflecting horizons in the prospect area.RESULTS: The structural trend, minimum closure and crest location, were successfully defined, but the areal extent of the gross anomaly could not be fully demonstrated, due to programme limitations. Although a minimum section of 16 000 feet is present in the anomaly, only the upper 7500 feet are likely to be prospective. The results of the gravity project show the suitability of the method for future reconnaissance surveys in this part of the Officer Basin, and the data quality produced by the weight drop unit was sufficiently encouraging to suggest its future use. Energy source: Weight drop. CDP coverage: 100% (136 km), 200% (33 km). Recording mode: Analogue. 169 km line of 24 channels. SP/VP interval: 366 metres, Group interval: 30:5 metres. Survey dates: 4/7/67 - 9/9/67.
