1103 gravity stations were read at 3 mile cell spacings by either helicopter or vehicle-based contractors during November 1965, in an area of 8500 square miles centred on the Trans Australian Railway and stretching from the SA/WA State Border to the longitude of the Head of Bight. The survey has delineated a broad, north-west trending Bouguer gravity minimum straddling the Trans Australian Railway, which may continue northwards from the survey area. The data suggest that greatest depths to basement (possibly 5000-6000 feet or more) may be attained to the north-east of Hughes Siding. A narrow, north-east trending minimum south of Cook township has also been outlined.
