1189 stations spaced at half-mile intervals were read for gravity and ground magnetic values along variously dispersed lines and loops that cover 2000 square miles of the north-eastern corner of the State, by GSI Party 662 personnel over the period August-October 1963. The primary objective was to acquire and interpret basic geophysical data, other than existing regional aeromagnetic and seismic data, in an area which from recent drilling discoveries is believed to have considerable potential for finding commercial quantities of hydrocarbons. Several major positive and negative structural axes, plus faults and basement-controlled fault systems, were identified, and have been correlated with the available subsurface information from limited drilling. Recommendations are made of areas that require more detailed profiling to define inferred prospective structural and stratigraphic features.
