Monash 1 is located 30 km west of Renmark, and was drilled to a total depth of 1050 m. It penetrated a sequence of Tertiary, Cretaceous and Permian rocks, mostly of marine origin. Cuttings recovered from the hole interval below 1012 m depth extending to the hole's TD contained a pink sandstone which may be of Devonian age. But because no core was cut in this interval, it cannot be said with certainty that this sample lithology does not merely derive instead from pebbles contained in Permian glacigene sediments.
